Follow these steps to get started at Big Bend.

1. Apply for VA Educational Benefits

Visit va.gov to apply. This application will generate your Certificate of Eligibility in about 30 days

2. Apply to BBCC

  • New to Big Bend Community College? Apply Now!
  • Applicants will receive a welcome email once their application has been processed and they have been accepted to BBCC. This message will be sent to the email used to apply, sometimes communications may go to junk, be sure to check your inbox and junk mail frequently if you are expecting a communication from the college.
  • Important! Some programs have special admissions requirements.
  • DREAMer students: Please review State Financial Aid information for current and returning DREAMer Vikings.

3. Get Credit For Prior Learning

If you have earned credits from any of the following, please submit official documents to Big Bend Community College for evaluation. 

Contact the college, university, or awarding agency and request official transcripts to be sent to Big Bend Community College. Learn more about how to submit official documents.

4. Activate your Student CTCLink Account

Once a student has been admitted, they will receive a welcome email that will include their new BBCC student ID (ctcLink ID) number and their next steps. Please follow the directions to activate your ctcLink Student Account, this is an important step for new students.

5. Submit BBCC Veteran Reporting Form

Submit the Veteran Reporting Form to the School Certifying Official at veronicap@bigbend.edu Building 1400 – Student Administrative Support Services – Room 1485.

6. Submit Documents for Math & English Placement

  • Complete the free Placement Evaluation Request for English & math placement. This step can only be completed after the student’s Admissions Application has been processed. Students will need their BBCC student ID (ctcLink ID) number, which is included in the welcome email, to submit placement documentation.
    • Upload documentation of high school or college/university transcripts:
      • most recent high school report card, high school transcript (within 10 years for English and 2 years for math), or Skyward grade report
      • unofficial college/university transcripts
      • SBACPSAT, SAT, ACT scores
    • Math Placement Flow Chart
  • Learn about all placement options such as how Transfer creditAdvanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) credit earned in English and math can be used for placement. Be aware: You may not be able to enroll for some courses without placement. 
  • The BBCC Accuplacer test is for students intending to enroll in math or a course that requires a math prerequisite and are not able to report high school grades or scores and do not have any previous college experience. Cost: $10.
  • Guided Placement for English is for students that are not able to report high school grades or scores and do not have any previous college experience.

7. Complete Viking Orientation and sign up for New Student Enrollment

  • All new students are required to complete an Online Viking Orientation and it must be completed before you attend New Student Enrollment. The online orientation is a resource for you to refer to anytime.
  • At New Student Enrollment, an advisor will help you understand your placement results, find essential resources on the BBCC website, and help you enroll for your first quarter classes.  Note: At the end of the Viking Orientation, you will sign up for a New Student Enrollment session. Follow the directions provided for you in the online orientation. The link to sign up for this event is found in the Online Viking Orientation.
    • Admitted Students must have Steps 4-8 completed before they attend New Student Enrollment.

8. Paying Tuition

  • Save your spot! Don’t forget to pay your tuition or arrange payment by the deadline. Check here for due dates!
    • If an eligible Service members decides to use Tuition Assistance (TA), BBCC will enroll him or her only after the TA is approved by the individual’s Service.
  • Payment options:
    • Students can visit the Business office to pay in person.
    • Call the Business office to pay over the phone.
    • Pay online through your ctcLink account.
    • Set up a STEPP Payment Plan, stop by or call to get started!

9. Living on Campus (Optional)

  • Students may live on-campus in the Residence Halls. Please complete and submit the application and contract form found on the Residence Halls webpage.
  • Pay the $200 deposit: Phone (509) 793-2018.

10. Successful Course Completion

You must notify the school certifying official anytime there is a change to your schedule or if you plan to change degree programs.
