Academic/Program Advising

BBCC offers more than 62 degrees and certificates that range from a few months to a few years depending on which program you choose. There are many questions students have when attending college and academic/program advisors are here to assist you. Academic/Program advisors help students understand degree requirements, select classes, and develop a balanced schedule as you work toward the completion of your educational plans. Additionally, academic/program advisors will assist you in accessing other departments and resources on campus that could best serve you in successfully reaching your educational/career goals.

If you are undecided and wish to explore another program, you may contact the Counseling and Advising Center at (509) 793-2035 for more information.  The Counseling and Advising Center is located in the 1400 Building.

Appointments are preferred, although advisors and counselors are generally available for walk-ins.

How To Find My Assigned Advisor

You are assigned an Academic/Program Advisor when you first apply to Big Bend based upon the area of interest you expressed on your application for admission.  If you left the question blank, you were assigned one based on advisor availability.  In either case, you can find your assigned advisor by completing the following steps.

Mandatory Advising

Students with fewer than 30 earned credits must meet with an Academic/Program Advisor each quarter prior to registration. Your advisor will discuss your academic goals and help you identify possible courses for the upcoming quarter. Students will receive a quarterly registration PIN from their advisor EVERY quarter, which will be needed to register.

Students who are on academic probation must also see their advisor prior to registering for courses each quarter. Students who are on academic probation will have a registration block. The Registration block will be removed by the advisor. A Registration block will remain active each quarter until the student reaches a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.

Education Plans

If you have any questions regarding your education plan, please contact your academic/program advisor.  You can find the name of your assigned Academic/Program Advisor on the top left corner of your Student Schedule (located in the Student Kiosk).  You may also reference the Academic/Program Advisor list.
