MOSES LAKE — Big Bend Community College is making it easier for students to access services and resources remotely with its new one-stop “Virtual Assistance” webpage. The Virtual Assistance webpage has options for students to connect to staff in various departments across campus via Zoom virtual lobbies.

Zoom is a remote video conferencing service that can be used on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Students can choose to Zoom with staff via phone by dialing in or video chat through the Zoom app.

“These virtual lobbies offer students a way to interact with us still, even though we are operating remotely,” said BBCC Advising Coordinator Jenn deLeón. “It’s taking the place of physically walking into an office and talking to someone.”

Virtual lobbies have been set up for Big Bend’s most frequently accessed departments.

For example, students can use the Student Administrative Support Services lobby to ask questions specific to admissions, registration, financial aid, transcripts, and graduation.

This includes work study, loans, and FAFSA/WASFA applications, student employment, and VA benefits.

Students can get assistance with adding or dropping a class or changing schedules, and ask questions about transferring using Big Bend’s new walk-in advising lobby. Virtual lobbies are also set up to connect students with staff in Workforce Education Services, Outreach, Dual Enrollment and Career Services and the Viking Food Pantry.

A virtual lobby for the college’s Basic Education for Adults and Open Doors programs will be added in the coming weeks. Students will be able to use this lobby for questions regarding English Language Learning classes, High School Diploma/GED or the Open Doors program.

To access any of the Zoom virtual lobbies, visit the college’s Get Virtual Assistance page or select ‘Get Virtual Assistance’ from either the Admissions or Academics dropdown tabs on the Big Bend homepage. Once on the Virtual Assistance page, students will find specific lobby hours and instructions for accessing them.
