BBCC’s STAR Committee help in the Annual Moses Lake Cleanup

Volunteers at Clean-up Day

The Big Bend Community College’s classified staff, STAR (Staff Training and Recognition) Committee, completed its pilot off-campus community service project on May 7, 2016.  We participated in the Annual Moses Lake Cleanup, part of the Vision 20-20 project for the community.

We had 22 volunteers including BBCC staff, BBCC students, and family volunteers.  Four teams were assigned to clean the area on Hwy 17 between Randolph Rd and Airway Dr.  We primarily cleaned on the base side of the Hwy.  One team with children under the age of 12 was assigned to clean Neppel Landing.  We also had three driver teams that picked up, loaded, and delivered the debris and garbage to the designated drop off area at the Porter House. All totaled, we delivered six and a half heaping truckloads of debris and garbage. The Porter House provided a lunch to the volunteers.  The STAR Committee would like to thank all of the volunteers who took the time out of their busy schedules to help us and our community with this service project.
