Two of Big Bend’s Brightest to Represent at State Event

MOSES LAKE — College students Rebekah Anderson and Mia DeLeon will be recognized for their scholastic achievement and community service at a ceremony on Thursday, March 22 at South Puget Sound Community College, in Olympia. Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman will be the keynote speaker.

Representing Big Bend, Anderson and DeLeon are among 78 of the state’s top scholars who will represent the state’s 34 community and technical colleges as members of the All-Washington Academic Team. Each two-year college in the state may nominate up to four students for the honor.

Members of the team will be honored by Gov. Jay Inslee and receive a medallion from their respective college president at the March 22 ceremony.

Anderson is currently studying Business Information Management and hopes to graduate by winter 2019. She has recently given birth to twins, in addition to her 9-year-old daughter, and will only be attending Big Bend part-time in the near future. Once she graduates, she plans to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue her bachelor’s degree.

DeLeon is studying Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. She’s currently a Running Start student at Moses Lake who is on track to earn both her high school diploma and her AA degree in June of 2018. DeLeon plans to transfer to Seattle Pacific University to continue her education after BBCC.
