Runnin’ Vikes Punch Tournament ticket

With a 99-86 victory on the road against Community Colleges of Spokane, the Big Bend Community College Runnin’ Vikes punched their ticket to the 2017 Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Tournament as the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Division.

BBCC finishes its regular season at 19-10 overall and 11-5 in conference play.

The Runnin’ Vikes were led by sophomore Jacob McCord who finished with a double-double on Saturday dropping 24 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. It was a fitting end to the regular season for the shooting forward from Westlake, UT who has led the conference in scoring and rebounding for the majority of the season. Heading into the tournament, McCord is averaging 25.93 points per game (752 total) and 12.14 rebounds per game (352 total).

Big Bend also got quality performances from freshman Jai Jai Ely (20 points, 2 assists), Joey Andrews (19 points, 3 rebounds), and Josh Erickson (17 points, 5 rebounds).

The Runnin’ Vikes will now travel this week to Everett, WA to compete in the round of 16 at NWAC Tournament host Everett Community College. Big Bend is scheduled to take on South Puget Sound Community College Thursday, March 9 at 2 p.m.

South Puget Sound finished the season tops in the NWAC’s West Region with an overall 22-5 record and a 13-1 conference record.

It will be the first time these two teams have faced off this season.
