FedEx has donated three Boeing 727s to institutions in Washington state, as part of the package delivery company’s plan to donate its once-large fleet of the three-engine aircraft to organizations around the world.
The three planes in Washington are a homecoming for the model, which once was Boeing’s most popular, and which netted 1,832 orders. The 727’s popularity was exceeded only by the 737, which is still in production with 8,263 planes delivered.
The Washington state recipients of the three aircraft are two colleges – Everett Community College and Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake – as well as the Spokane International Airport Fire Department.
The schools will likely use the planes for training in their aerospace programs.
