Campus art exhibition features talent from local high schools

MOSES LAKE — Several Grant County high school students are displaying their artwork on campus this month as part of the college’s first-ever Area High School Art Exhibition. Artists from Ephrata, Warden and Moses Lake high schools are featured.

The show is a collaboration between BBCC and local high school art teachers.

Artwork in the show varies, with some students submitting charcoal or acrylic prints and others mixed media, photography, or ceramics.

Ephrata High School art teacher Tobin Springs said his students, mostly juniors and seniors, were excited and proud to have their work displayed outside of their high school. They spent the last few weeks creating all new pieces for the show.

“It was an honor for my students, their art is an outlet for them,” he said.

BBCC Art Assistant Professor Dustin Regul said he hopes to not only continue the exhibition each year but to include more high schools from around the college’s service district.

“I put myself back in high school art classes because I never showed anywhere,” said Regul. “Displaying your art is quite influential and inspirational for a student who has a passion for art.”

See all the artwork currently on display in the lobby of the Paul Hirai Fine Arts Building (1900) through November 22.
