How do I apply as an International Student? (Requirements, documents deadlines)

Applying for admission, applying for a visa, and making the necessary arrangements to study in another country all take time. Therefore, we require applicants to submit all documents at least 60 days prior to the start of the term. Documents may be submitted by email except where official copies are required (English language test scores and college transcripts). Documents may also be sent by mail.

Contact Kerri Furman at kerrif@bigbend.edu to request application materials.

  • Application – Submit an International Student Application form. The online application is not available to international applicants at this time.
  • Identification — Submit a legible copy of your current passport.
  • Demonstration of English Proficiency — BBCC does not currently offer English as a Second Language classes for international students. Students on F-1 visas must arrive at BBCC prepared to take classes taught in American English. We accept any one of the following as demonstrating this requirement:
    • TOEFL – Minimum score of 12 on each section
    • IELTS – Minimum score of 4 on each section, or
    • Successful completion of a first-year English composition class at a U.S. college or university, approved by BBCC. English as a Second Language classes do not count.
  • Finances — International students must provide documentation of their ability to cover all costs for the first academic year (September through June). You will be asked to submit a Declaration of Finances form along with supporting documents.
    • A limited number of scholarships are available to international students through our BBCC Foundation. Scholarship applications are accepted from October to February each year for the following school year, so applying early is encouraged. Visit the Foundation Scholarship website for more information and to apply.
    • Limited partial tuition waivers and stipends may be offered to students recruited for specific programs.
    • BBCC does not offer on-campus employment to first-year international students.
    • Students in the U.S. on F-1 visas are not permitted to seek employment off campus.
  • Age and Prior Education — Applicants must have completed the equivalent of a high school diploma before starting classes at BBCC. Submit a copy of your high school transcript or other documentation showing you have completed high school. If you are a senior completing soon, please send a copy of your current records. If you will be younger than 18 years of age on the first day of BBCC classes, contact the international student coordinator (kerrif@bigbend.edu) regarding on-campus housing policies.
    • Have you attended another US college or university? Please submit official transcripts from these institutions for transfer credit evaluation.
    • Students who have earned college-level credits from a non-US college or university will need to have their transcript professionally evaluated.

NOTE: If you plan to transfer college-level credit, whether from a U.S. or a non-U.S. college or university, please reach out to us for guidance on how to submit these records. We are here to help.
