Effective Thursday, March 19, Big Bend Community College will be instituting additional preventative measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and help protect our campus community and the public.

Although the changes will alter the way we deliver resources, we do believe it will allow us to do so in a much safer way for both our employees and our current and future students.

Starting tomorrow, many college resources will only be available remotely, including admissions, financial aid, advising, and counseling services. As we move into the spring quarter, even more resources will move to this model communicating by email, online, or through video conferencing.

“The more that Big Bend can do to limit face-to-face interactions between our staff and the public, the better job we are doing of ‘flattening the curve’ to help limit the spread of COVID-19,” said Director of Communications Matt Killebrew. “We want to protect our employees and their families and by pivoting to this remote operational model we can reduce risk while still providing needed resources and excellent customer service.”

While Big Bend cannot provide every service remotely, those that must be provided face-to-face will be focused on responsible social distancing. We would ask visitors to campus to make responsible choices in order to protect yourself and those around you.

  • Please do not come to campus if you are sick, or if you have been around anyone who is sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Clean your hands afterward with soap or a hand sanitizer.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, and for at least 20 seconds. Or, use a hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol.
  • Please practice responsible social distancing and try to remain six feet away from other persons.

The areas of campus where face-to-face interactions still occur will be sanitized frequently throughout each day and undergo specialized cleaning each evening.
