MOSES LAKE — Prepare for the start of the new quarter by making sure you’re subscribed to the Big Bend Community College Campus Alert System to receive email and text notifications for campus emergencies and severe weather alerts.

Big Bend uses the Campus Alert System, powered by Rave Mobile Safety, to keep the campus community informed during emergencies and weather-related situations that might delay or cancel classes or other activities. Students and employees are automatically subscribed to campus alerts with their Big Bend email address but should register their mobile numbers and additional email addresses as well.

“Your safety is the highest priority at Big Bend Community College,” said BBCC Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Management Kyle Foreman. “To enhance your ability to be informed and make decisions, BBCC offers the Campus Alert System to all college community members. You can get important information about campus emergencies via text message and email for free.”

BBCC will send out emergency messages for campus closures and lockdowns and for major crimes or dangerous situations involving an immediate or continuing threat to the health or safety of students or employees. Messages will also be sent to alert students and employees to the risk of severe weather in the Moses Lake area.

“The Rave mobile safety system will allow you to know as early as possible whether the campus is going to be closed due to inclement weather,” said Director of Communications Matt Killebrew. “Big Bend will evaluate the campus and surrounding areas and make a decision on whether the area is safe for students. However, we are unable to accurately predict whether conditions throughout our entire service area (4,600-plus miles) is safe. We ultimately leave the decision on whether or not it is safe to travel to our individual students and staff members.”

Emergency messages and alerts will also be broadcast on official BBCC social media sites.

Campus Alerts does not charge subscribers to send or receive SMS messages, but standard or other messaging charges may apply depending upon your wireless plan and subscription details. Once registered, you can opt out of text messages at any time.
