“Guard Against Hunger” campaign to aid Viking Food Pantry

MOSES LAKE — The Big Bend Community College Veteran Resource Office and the Washington National Guard are teaming up to help stock the shelves at the Viking Food Pantry this fall.

Several food collection boxes have been placed around campus as part of the Guard’s statewide “Guard Against Hunger” campaign. Members of the campus community can drop off non-perishable food items in these boxes through Thursday, Oct. 18.

“The ‘Guard Against Hunger’ campaign helps to address a need common not only in college students but in the community as well,” said BBCC Veteran Resource Officer Jim Leland. “The proceeds from this drive will help students and their families get through some of the most trying months in this region, when the weather tends to put higher demands on already scarce resources.”

The Washington National Guard established the “Guard Against Hunger” campaign to help reduce the impact of hunger in the communities they serve.

The Guard has set up food drives in dozens of high schools and colleges throughout the state over the last couple of years. Items collected at each drive get donated to that community’s local food bank.

“The goal for the Guard is to support our communities in every aspect,” said Moses Lake Station Commander Sgt. 1^st Class Justin Morris. “We wanted to expand on the program and help support the food pantry at Big Bend.”

1200 Bldg.- Near the vending machines in the common area

1400 Bldg.- Outside the Veteran Resource Office, near student registration and in the Student Success Center

1500 Bldg.- Main entrance, across from the Viking Food Pantry

1600 Bldg.- In the common area and next to the lab

1700 Bldg.- In the common area

1800 Bldg.- Outside the Simplot Room and next to the dining hall

1900 Bldg.- In the common area
