BBCC Founder Dr. Robert Smith

Smith Hall is named in honor of Dr. Robert Smith, superintendent of the Moses Lake School District, who spearheaded the effort to create Big Bend Community College by initiating a $1 million local bond issue in 1961 to build a campus. He reported to the Moses Lake School Board. It was due to Dr. Smith’s continuous efforts that Big Bend Community College came into being.
