MOSES LAKE — Current and prospective students can begin applying for scholarships through the Big Bend Community College Foundation for the 2021-22 academic year.

The application process is easy, and allows students to apply for any and all BBCC scholarships with a single online application. The application can be accessed through a computer, tablet or smartphone.

This year, the foundation awarded nearly $250,000 in scholarships to students. Foundation staff have also facilitated $23,000 in emergency fund scholarships, which helps students experiencing unforeseen, emergent financial situations remain in school.

Funds for scholarships come from various donors and from supporters of the foundation’s annual Cellarbration! For Education scholarship fundraiser.

“We’re raising more money every year for our students,” said Foundation Executive Director LeAnne Parton.

The foundation manages nearly 200 different scholarships. Some are earmarked for students in specific programs, while others are considered ‘open’, meaning all students are welcome to apply.

The online application automatically funnels students to all the scholarships they are eligible for.

The deadline to submit applications is March 15, 2021. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Notification of scholarship awards are typically sent in the spring, with some additional award notifications sent over the summer, fall and winter.

While they have until March 15 to submit their applications, students are encouraged to begin the process sooner, rather than later.

“Starting early will give students time to prepare materials and write responses to essay questions,” said Foundation Program Assistant Jennifer Starr.
