60-plus exhibitors registered for March 1 BBCC Job & Career Fair

More than 60 employers are scheduled to attend the 2017 Job & Career Fair scheduled for Wednesday, March 1 on the Big Bend Community College campus making this the largest local event that places potential employees and employers under one roof.

The 24th annual event will be held inside the college’s ATEC Building (Room 1800) beginning at 9 a.m. and will continue until 3 p.m.

In addition to the chance to network with local members of business and industry, those in attendance will also be able to attend workshops on how to leverage social media when looking for a job and how to reduce stress during your employment search.

“We want to provide a complete environment that not only pairs potential employees and employers, but also gives those searching for employment some tools to make their search more successful,” said BBCC Director of Communications Matt Killebrew. “With social media playing such a huge role in our lives today, everyone needs to know the potential benefits, as well as the potential harm; their social media presence can create. This workshop will help educate about that fact.

“Many people are not aware that one of the first things employers research about potential employees are the things they post online. You can sometimes ruin your chances of being hired before you even get the chance to interview.”

Big Bend can also provide resume help to those who are planning to attend the Job & Career Fair through its Career Services Center. Anyone who wants to take advantage of this help should contact the center at (509) 793-2069.

Some of the categories of employers attending the fair include manufacturing, food processing, retail, service industries, health care, aerospace, education, and technology. BBCC programs that provide training for these jobs set up exhibits adjacent to the employers.

For a complete list of employers and exhibitors that are registered to attend, check out the event online on the Big Bend Facebook page or on the Big Bend Community College website under the “Student Center” tab on the homepage.
