Nursing Assistant

What is an NA-C?

A Nursing Assistant-Certified (NA-C) is a person who has successfully completed a Washington State-approved training program and has then passed the National Nurse Aid Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination in Washington State. The BBCC Nursing Assistant program is a Washington State approved program and prepares students to provide basic nursing care to patients throughout the life-span under the supervision of licensed health care professionals.

NA-C’s are able to work in a variety of settings including extended care facilities, residential care facilities, medical offices, and hospitals. Employment opportunities are numerous as the health care industry continues to expand throughout the world. NA-C employment provides work flexibility and opportunities for personal growth.

What is involved in becoming an NA-C?

The Nursing Assistant Program is one quarter long. It includes lecture, skills lab and direct patient care under the supervision of a clinical nursing instructor. The nursing assistant lecture and skills laboratory courses are held at the Big Bend Community College Health Education Department of the 1700 building.

How is the Nursing Assistant Program a “Stepping Stone” to my future?

Successful completion of the program prepares the student to take the National Nurse Aid Assessment Program (NNAAP) test in Washington State. Successful completion of the examination allows for both gainful employment as a NA-C and provides a strong foundation for entry into the Nursing (ADN) program.
