Two BBCC TRiO Upward Bound students awarded $20,000 scholarships through Dell Scholars Program
MOSES LAKE — TRiO Upward Bound students Jannet Hinojosa, Warden High School, and Alan Amado-Victoriano, Royal High School, have recently been selected as national 2025 Dell Scholars.
This highly competitive award, with only 500 recipients chosen nationwide, recognizes exceptional students who demonstrate strong academic potential and drive. The Dell Scholars program provides each recipient with a $20,000 scholarship, a new Dell laptop, and invaluable educational and career-related mentorship and support.
The Dell Scholars Program, run by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, is a scholarship and college-completion program that nurtures and empowers students on their path to a college degree. The program recognizes students who have demonstrated grit, potential, and ambition and those who have overcome significant obstacles in pursuit of their education.
The Dell Scholars Program is in its 21st year, and to date, has supported nearly 6,000 students across the country.
TRiO Upward Bound director Anita DeLeon said both students have demonstrated self-motivation and initiative when it comes to academics.
“I am proud of BBCC TRiO Upward Bound’s 2025 Dell Scholars. Their dedication to their education is evident in their commitment to rigorous coursework and their proactive approach to learning,” said DeLeon.
Jannet and Alan are both full-time Running Start students at BBCC and are on track to graduate with both their high school diplomas and associate degrees this June. Jannet plans on attending Eastern Washington University in the fall, and Alan will head to Washington State University.
“Jannet and Alan have truly taken advantage of the educational opportunities available to them and have made school a top priority,” said DeLeon. “Their hard work and dedication are an inspiration to us all.”
DeLeon added that their success highlights the impact of the TRiO Upward Bound program at Big Bend, which provides support and resources to first-generation students to help them succeed in their pursuit of higher education.
The Upward Bound program at Big Bend has been on campus since 1967 and is one of the oldest Upward Bound programs in the nation. The program is currently serving 119 students this academic year.
