The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) sets out requirements that are designed to protect the privacy of students and their parents of record. Federal regulations prohibit the disclosure of a student’s financial aid information to anyone other than the student without the student’s written permission. The Financial Aid Office will only disclose information as is allowed by FERPA. We will not disclose a student’s information to a parent, to a spouse of the student, or any other person unless allowed by FERPA or designated in writing by the student.

To authorize disclosure to specific individuals, including parents and spouse, make sure you have downloaded and returned the Confidential Information Release Form for the appropriate financial aid year. Submit the form to the Student Services Office. Any changes to the form must also be submitted in writing.
