Runnin’ Vikes pickup win over Wenatchee, 84-70

The Big Bend Community College Runnin’ Vikes improved to 7-2 in the Northwest Athletic Conference’s (NWAC) Eastern Division Wednesday night with a victory over Wenatchee Valley, 84-70.

BBCC was led Jake McCord who dropped 32 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in an outstanding effort against the Knights. The 6-foot-8 sophomore from Westlake, UT continued his assault on the conference where he currently leads the NWAC in scoring and rebounding with 28.4 points and 12.2 boards.

Freshman Jai Jai Ely (Skyline HS, Idaho Falls, ID) also chiseled out a solid performance with 18 points and eight rebounds. Joey Andrews (FR, Riverton HS, Riverton, UT) added a dozen points and Leo Behrend (SO, Century HS, Pocatello, ID) finished with 11.

Big Bend joined Spokane and Walla atop the conference standing at 7-2 and improved to 15-7 overall.

 

Lady Knights 62, Lady Vikings 55 OT

Despite a double-double (19 points, 12 rebs) from freshman Hailey Garrity (Westview, HS Beaverton, OR) the Lady Vikings dropped a tough conference game in overtime to WVCC, 62-55.

BBCC was outscored 13-6 in the overtime period bringing their conference record to 2-7 and overall record to 10-12.

Callie Gronning (FR, Soda Springs HS, Soda Springs, ID) also turned in a worthy performance netting 16 points while pulling down four rebounds with a pair of assists and a block.

Big Bend returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Pendleton, OR to take on Blue Mountain in another NWAC Eastern Division battle.
