MOSES LAKE — Students may have noticed a few changes in the 1400 building upon their return to campus for Winter Quarter.
Over the quarter break, Student Activities and Associated Student Body offices, along with the Veteran Resource Office, moved from across the hall from the Business Office into the Student Success Center. Occupying that space now is the Testing Center, which was previously located in the 1000 building with TRiO Upward Bound.
“The Associated Student Body officers expressed a desire to move to a location where they would be more visible to the overall student body,” said Dr. Bryce Humpherys, Vice President of Learning and Student Success. “Their new offices are much more visible and their new location will facilitate their collaboration with other college staff and departments that also provide student engagement opportunities.”
The Veteran Resource Office also benefited from the move, as it is now closer to other services veteran students often utilize. You can find the Veteran Resource Office in room 1427, also known as the “Twig Room”, across from the Student Success Center.
“The new location is near ideal, as it retains an administrative building location, allowing Vets and dependents easy access to critical services,” said Veteran Resource Officer Jim Leland. “While it still provides an enclosed space when needed, the central placement makes the office easy to find and assists transitioning service members with integration into college life.”
The Student Success Center still provides students with a dedicated space for club meetings, tutoring, computer usage, and study groups.
New and prospective students will also benefit from the changes, as having the Testing Center in the 1400 building makes the registration process much more convenient.
“Moving the Testing Center to its new location in the 1400 building will help Big Bend Community College better serve new students,” said. “All the services new students need for the admission and registration process will now be housed in the same building. BBCC can essentially provide new students with a ‘one-stop shop’ experience.”
