BBCC and WorkSource partners offer virtual help for job seekers

Worksource Virtual OrientationMOSES LAKE — Community members who are currently unemployed, or underemployed, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic can now get help from local WorkSource partners, including Big Bend Community College, the Employment Security Department, SkillSource and Job Corps, completely online.

WorkSource virtual orientations will take place each Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Agencies will be utilizing Zoom, a remote video conferencing service, to meet with participants. Zoom software is free to download and can be used on a computer, tablet or smartphone.

Each week, representatives from WorkSource partners will share services and current resources available to job seekers, including training and educational opportunities, job search help, and veteran and youth programs. The virtual face-to-face format also gives participants an opportunity to ask questions during the orientation.

WorkSource partners have offered similar in-person orientations in the past, and decided to move to an online format to help those affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

“Due to all the changes and dramatic increase of unemployment claims these orientations are even more important,” said BBCC Career Services Coordinator Jody Bortz. “We are also creating newsletters, one for the local business community and one for job seekers. These will highlight resources, services and supports the WorkSource Business Services Partnership can provide.”

The next virtual orientation is scheduled for April 22. Attendees can access the meeting by visiting the WorkSource virtual orientation Zoom lobby. Weekly orientations will continue to be held online until the state’s “Stay-Home, Stay-Healthy” directive has been lifted.
