Foundation Scholarships

The BBCC Foundation awards over $500,000 annually to support both current and prospective Big Bend Community College students. Our online application process allows students to apply for all available scholarships with a single submission.

The scholarship application opens in the fall for both the main and summer cycles. The main cycle application typically closes at the end of the winter quarter, while the summer cycle remains open until mid-August. The Foundation uses rolling deadlines, meaning students who are not selected during the main cycle will automatically be considered for summer-cycle scholarships if they meet eligibility requirements. All BBCC Foundation scholarships are exclusively designated for students attending Big Bend Community College.

Important Scholarship Dates
Main Cycle:         11/1/25 - 3/30/26
Summer Cycle:  11/1/25 - 8/10/26

To apply for BBCC scholarships, complete the online scholarship application. Once submitted, you will automatically be considered for all Big Bend scholarship opportunities that match your qualifications. Detailed instructions are provided throughout the application and should be read carefully, as some scholarships may require additional information. We strongly encourage you to complete any additional steps to maximize your chances of receiving an award. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

After the application deadline, scholarships enter the review process, followed by award and acceptance procedures. Students can generally expect to receive scholarship notifications by the end of the spring quarter for the main application cycle and by the end of August for the summer cycle.

Scholarship award notifications will be sent to the email address listed on your AwardSpring application and will include instructions for accepting the award. It is important to use an email address you check regularly, as notifications are sent only to students who are selected to receive a scholarship.

All scholarships are applied to your financial aid package and disbursed by the Financial Aid Office at the beginning of the fall quarter. Scholarships valued at $800 or less are disbursed entirely in the fall quarter. Scholarships exceeding $800 are evenly distributed across the fall, winter, and spring quarters; however, you may request an alternative distribution by contacting Foundation staff.

After you accept your scholarship, the Financial Aid Office will apply the funds to your student account. Scholarship funds are first used to cover any outstanding tuition and fees. Unless the scholarship is designated as tuition-only, any remaining balance will be refunded to you once your account is settled.

If you have any questions about how your scholarship is applied to your financial aid account, please contact the Financial Aid office.

The BBCC scholarship application includes four short-answer essays, which are the most important and heavily weighted components of the application. There are no right or wrong answers; however, to stand out, your responses should be thoughtful and meaningful, highlight your strengths, demonstrate what sets you apart from other applicants, and explain how receiving a scholarship would impact you.

We strongly encourage you to take advantage of Big Bend’s campus resources:

  • Big Bend’s Writing Center is available to all students, both online and in person, and is an excellent resource for developing and proofreading essays and other academic writing. The Writing Center is located inside the library in the ATEC/1800 building.
  • TRIO offers support services and resources for scholarship applications and essay assistance to eligible students, including low-income students, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities. Contact TRIO to see if you qualify for their support. TRIO is located in the Student Services Center in the 1400 building.
  • The Big Bend Foundation also assists with scholarship applications and essays. Information about drop-in workshops and appointments will be shared on Canvas and social media. Email notifications are sent only to students who have a scholarship application on file.

If you have any questions about the scholarship application or need more information, please contact Jennifer Starr at (509) 793-2005 or jennifers@bigbend.edu.
