The World Languages department at Big Bend Community College seek to prepare students for engagement with the wider world through the skill and art of communicating in a foreign language. Students have the option of enrolling in up to three quarter of a single foreign language.
Some foreign languages are offered on a bi-annual basis (alternating every other year). You may enroll in levels I, II or III any quarter that the language is offered.
- French – offered during even numbered years
- Fall 2018 – Spring 2019 and Fall 2020 – Spring 2021
- FRCH& 121, 122 and 123
- German – offered during odd numbered years
- Fall 2017 – Spring 2018 and Fall 2019 – Spring 2020
- GERM& 121, 122 and 123
- Spanish – offered every year
- SPAN& 121, 122 and 123
Students that are native/heritage speakers should contact the department chair, Angela Leavitt, about advanced placement or credit by examination.
- Students will be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Students will be able to reason mathematically.
- Students will be able to demonstrate teamwork, ethics, appropriate safety awareness and/or workplace specific skills.
- Students will be able to recognize or articulate personal/interpersonal aspects of, or connections between, diverse cultural, social, or political contexts.
- Students will be able to solve problems by gathering, interpreting, combining and/or applying information from multiple sources.
