Computer Science Vision Statement

Partnering with local industry to prepare students for immediate employment and further education in high-tech, high-demand careers.

Get industry-recognized training for high-demand careers in various sectors of information technology at Big Bend Community College. Students have the option of completing associate degrees, short-term certificates, or take courses for transfer to a four-year college or university.

Demonstrate the ability to build, upgrade, and repair computer hardware
Configure, troubleshoot, and administer computer networks and networking hardware
Analyze and solve computational problems using a modern program language
Deploy and manage server hardware and software to support organizational operations and goals
Identify basic components of databases, virtualization, security, and project management
Configure WAN technologies and network services required by converged applications in a complex network
Troubleshoot routers & switches; resolve common VLAN routing issues in both IPv4. & IPv6 networks
Students will be able to communicate clearly and effectively within a workplace context.
Students will be able to reason mathematically using methods appropriate to the profession.
Students will be able to demonstrate teamwork and/or workplace specific skills related to human relations.
