The Aviation Maintenance Technology Program at BBCC is designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of aviation-related careers. Graduates from the BBCC AMT program can find employment all throughout the aviation industry using the skills
Students enrolling in the AMT program will experience two academic years of instruction on a variety of airframes and powerplants, including light general aviation aircraft, twin-engine turboprops, helicopters, experimental aircraft, and more. The instructors of BBCC AMT also encourage students to take part in tailoring their time in the program to match their desired careers using our wide variety of training aircraft and resources. Class time are from 7:30am to 4:00pm for full-time students, with program entry part-time hours varying from quarter to quarter.
Big Bend’s AMT instructors push students to be the best mechanics they can be using their wide background in aviation maintenance. Their education and experience include FAA Inspection Authorizations, a Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME), as well as military, commercial, and general aviation experience on a large variety of airframes and powerplants. All instruction is done in a newly constructed hangar located on BBCC’s campus with access to Grant County International Airport, offering excellent extra-curricular opportunities for motivated students. Students not only get to work on the training aircraft, but also have the opportunity to operate the aircraft in an airport environment, unique to other Part 147 schools in the PNW.
The BBCC AMT program is approved by the Washington State Aeronautics Commission and by the FAA as a Part 147 AMTS. Upon successful completion of the AMT program students will meet the requirements to take the FAA written exams for the Airframe and Powerplant ratings of the Mechanic’s certificate, as well as to take the Oral and Practical exams as appropriate. All testing can be accomplished on campus through our FAA testing center and through an on-staff DME.
