Accessibility Training

Fall 2025 eLearning Accessibility Training & Lab Schedule

  • Please bring your Big Bend laptop to Friday training/lab!
  • Install Adobe Acrobat Pro from MyApps for your laptop before attending Accessibility Trainings
  • Attendance is tracked on a spreadsheet which is shared with HR and the deans
  • What support can you expect from the eLearning Coordinator? They will train you:
    • How to remediate your own documents
    • How to create alt-tags for your images
    • How to add captions to your videos in Panopto
    • How to remediate your PowerPoints
    • How to replace pdf journal articles and book scans with library database permalinks
    • And more!

Trainings and Labs are held:

  • Monday and Tuesday Trainings are on Zoom from 6:30 to 7:30pm
  • Friday Trainings are Labs (“work on your course” time) as well. In-person at 9am to 11:00am. Faculty are welcome to work longer in the lab if they wish.
  • Schedule individual session with Geri Hopkins, eLearning Coordinator for one-on-one accessibility remediation support
  • Walk-in support is often, though not always, available (For example, unavailable if the coordinator is covering lunch shifts in the library or involved in a scheduled support session).

  • Use of color and fonts, and contrast

    • Writing meaningful hyperlinks for accessibility across platforms (Canvas, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Making Powerpoints accessible

Week 5, Monday, Oct 20 (Zoom) and Friday, October 24 (in person)

  • Remediating PDFs using Document properties and Prepare for Accessibility
  • Use library database permalinks instead of pdfs. Remediates copyright infringement too.

Week 6, Tuesday, Oct 28 (Zoom) and Friday, October 31 (in person)

  • Document Headings in pdfs using HTML Accessibility Tags
  • Headings in Word

Week 7, Monday, Nov 3 (Zoom) and Friday, November 7 (in person)
