Accessibility Training

Spring 2025 eLearning Accessibility Training & Lab Schedule

  • Please bring your Big Bend laptop to Friday training/lab!
  • Please activate Adobe Acrobat Pro by selecting the Adobe Creative Cloud tile after logging in to MyApps 
  • Attendance is tracked on a spreadsheet which is shared with HR and the deans
  • What support can you expect from the eLearning Coordinator? They will train you:
         o How to remediate your own documents
         o How to create alt-tags for your images
         o How to add captions to your videos in Panopto
         o How to remediate your Powerpoints
         o How to replace pdf journal articles and book scans with library database permalinks
         o And more!

Trainings and Labs are held:

  • Monday and Tuesday Trainings are on Zoom from 6:30 to 7:30pm
  • Friday Trainings are Labs (“work on your course” time) as well. In-person at 9am to 11:00am. Faculty are welcome to work longer in the lab if they wish.
  • Schedule individual session with Geri Hopkins, eLearning Coordinator to work with accessibility issues encountered in Canvas courses.
  • Walk-in support is often, though not always, available (For example, unavailable if the coordinator is covering lunch shifts in the library or involved in a scheduled support session).

Week 2, Tuesday (Zoom) April 8, no training/lab on Friday

              o Using built-in headings to create clear, hierarchical structures in documents and Canvas.
  • Use of color and fonts, and contrast
  • Making Tables accessible

Week 3, Monday, April 14 (Zoom) and Friday, April 18 (in person)

          o Writing meaningful hyperlinks for accessibility across platforms (Canvas, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Making PowerPoints accessible

Week 5, Monday, April 28 (Zoom) and Friday, May 2 (in person)

  • Accessibility Checker

  • Remediating PDFs using Optical Character Recognition, Enhance Scan, Convert to Word
  • Use library database permalinks instead of pdfs. Remediates copyright infringement too.

Week 6, Tuesday, May 5 (Zoom) and Friday, May 9 (in person)
