4. Submit Documents for Math and English Placement

English & Math Placement: What You Need to Know

Before you enroll in classes, we’ll help you get placed into the right English and math courses. Starting December 1st, placement is mandatory for new students—but don’t worry, it’s quick and easy!

  • Note: Placement is not required for:
    • Early Childhood Education (ECE) Initial Certificate
    • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program
    • Non-award seeking students

We use multiple measures to determine the best starting point for you. That means we look at things like:

  • Your high school transcripts
  • Smarter Balanced Assessment scores (if available)
  • Other college coursework or test scores (like AP, IB, or SAT/ACT)
  • Placement tests

This process helps make sure you’re set up for success from day one.

✅ How to Get Started

  1. Wait for your Admissions Application to be processed.
You’ll receive a welcome email with your BBCC student ID (ctcLink ID)—you’ll need this to begin.
  1. Complete the free Placement Evaluation Request.
This is where you’ll upload your placement documents.

What to Submit

We use multiple measures to determine your placement. You can upload:

  • Your most recent high school transcript (within 10 years for English, 2 years for math)
  • Unofficial college/university transcripts
  • Test scores: SBAC, PSAT, SAT, ACT

You can also learn how transfer credit, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) scores in English and math may be used for placement.

Don’t have any of the above?

No problem! If you graduated more than 10 years ago, don’t have test scores, or previous college experience, you still have options:

  • Accuplacer Math Test – For students without transcripts or test scores and no prior college experience.
  • Guided Placement for English – For students without transcripts or test scores and no prior college experience who need English placement.

⚠️  Note: Guided Placement is not available for Running Start students.
