M6th Annual BBCC Student Writing ContestOSES LAKE — Entries are now being accepted for the annual Big Bend Community College student writing contest.

This is the sixth year of the contest. Each year, judges see more than 50 original pieces from students.

“Since 2015, the BBCC Student Writing Contest has been showcasing our students’ exceptional talent,” said BBCC Developmental English instructor Dawnne Ernette.

Students can submit nonfiction pieces, such as academic research papers, essays and memoirs; fiction pieces, such as graphic novellas, plays, and short stories; and poetry. Entries will be accepted in any language.

Since some students may wish to submit personal stories, they do have the option to stay anonymous during the judging process as well.

Ernette said there will be three prizes in each category. First place winners will each receive $100, second place winners will each receive $75 and third place winners will each receive $50.

Submissions will be accepted through May 1. The contest is open to all currently enrolled BBCC students.

Winners will be notified and prizes awarded during Spring Quarter.

“Have you written something fabulous? Enter the contest,” said Ernette.
