Transitional Studies is a division of Big Bend Community College.  Our primary focus is to provide our communities the tools and resources to put them on a path to success.  This division of the college is home to a broad range of Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) programs. In conjunction with our academic programs, we also offer a broad range of services to both Transitional Studies and traditional college students.


  •  Adult Basic Education (ABE)
  • Developmental English and Transitional Math
  • College Success Skills
  • Secondary Completion Programs such as Open Doors, High School 21, and  G.E.D.
  • Dual-enrollment in select college-level courses
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) 
  • Citizenship  


  • Workforce Education Services –  provides guidance, support, and financial assistance for students in basic education and workforce education programs (non-transfer degrees)
  • William C. Bonaudi Library – located in the Advanced Technology Education Center (ATEC), Building 1800
  • English Writing Center – provides both Transitional Studies and college-level students assistance with writing projects (located in the Library)
  • Career Center – assists current, prospective and former students with exploring off-campus employment opportunities

How to Enroll

Enrolling in Transitional Studies programs is simple, just follow these steps. As a student in any of our programs you will also have access to the services above.

  1. Identify a site location (see below)
  2. Present yourself for class (all programs are open enrollment  through the eighth week of the quarter)
  3. Bring your $25 payment (check or money order payable to “BBCC”) – this is a per quarter fee
  4. Take an assessment test as needed in the subject of reading, writing and/or math
