What is involved in becoming an NAC?
The Nursing Assistant Program is one quarter long. It includes 44 hours of lecture, 44 hours of skills lab and 64 hours of direct patient care under the supervision of clinical nursing instructor. The nursing assistant lecture and skills laboratory courses are held in the BBCC Nursing building (building 1700). The 64 hours of direct patient care are held in a variety of health care settings with 40 of the hours being performed in the extended care facility setting. Students must be comfortable reading and writing in English to successfully complete the program. Students must provide evidence of a negative drug test and have a satisfactory criminal background check. |

How is the Nursing Assistant Program a "Stepping Stone" to my future?
Successful completion of the program prepares the student to take the National Nurse Aid Assessment Program (NNAAP) in Washington State. Successful completetion of the examination allows for both gainful employment as a NAC and meets the NAC certification requirement for application into the BBCC Level I Associated Degree Nursing program. Completion of the four quarter Level I program then allows the student to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing. This educational ladder concept provides an opportunity for the student to begin in the NAC program and advance through the Licensed Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing programs. |
