With snow blanketing the Big Bend campus Wednesday afternoon it was a bit ironic that members of the campus community were waiting anxiously for delivery of a few things to make it even colder.

Those things came in the form of two brand new freezers for BBCC’s Viking Food Pantry.

The new Frigidaire freezers were purchased with funds donated by the community through the Big Bend Community College Foundation, caring faculty, the BBCC Veteran’s Club, and the Associated Student Body.

“These two freezers will allow the Viking Food Pantry to store and provide an even greater amount, and variety, of food to our students who are in need of a little help,” said BBCC Director of Communications Matt Killebrew. “The fact that these were able to be purchased because of donations from our Big Bend campus community is a testament to the family atmosphere and genuine sense of caring we have for our students.”

The Viking Food Pantry held its Grand Opening this fall and has already proved to be a much-needed and appreciated resource on the BBCC campus, and its ongoing partnership with the Moses Lake Food Bank has solidified a steady stream of goods and sundries to keep its shelves stocked.

The Viking Food Pantry is open to students on Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located in Building 1500 (just east of the softball field) in Room 1501. They can be reached by phone at 793-2057.
