Return of Funds Policy
Any student receiving financial aid who totally withdraws from Big Bend Community College, may owe a return of money based on unearned aid. Funds will be returned in the following order: Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, Subsidized Stafford Loan, Perkins Loan, PLUS Loan, Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, other Title IV programs, and Washington State Need Grant.
When a student receives any source of Federal Title IV funding, the unearned aid must be returned to the Federal accounts even if some charges were paid by another source. The calculation used to determine how much must be returned is based on the number of days attended in the quarter. If the student completes more than 60% of the quarter, no return is necessary. If the student completes 60% or less, the return will be based on the Return of Title IV Funds calculation. The student will be notified if return of funds is required, and the debt to the Department of Education and/or to Big Bend Community College will have to be paid in full before future enrollments can occur.
A student should notify Financial Aid staff when he/she withdraws from school. Financial aid recipients who earned 0 credits with a 0.0 grade point average will be assumed to have withdrawn without notification. The Financial Aid Office will use judgement to determine withdraw date based on guidelines from the Department of Education.
