Information on scholarships from outside sources is posted in the Financial Aid Office. Eligibility requirements vary according to the criteria established for each scholarship.
Listed below are the scholarships which have been received at Big Bend Community College. Click on the appropriate links for each scholarship or come in to the Financial Aid Office for further information.
EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANT
Deadline for 2008-09 entry: Fall qtr = 10/1/08; Winter qtr = 2/1/09;
Spring qtr = 4/1/09; Summer qtr = 6/1/09
The Educational Opportunity Grant (EOG) program provides grants to financially needy, placebound Washington residents as an incentive to complete a four-year degree at an eligible four-year college. The grant’s purpose is to encourage students who have already earned an Associate of Arts or Sciences Degree, or have achieved junior standing, to complete a four-year degree. MARINE CORPS OFFICER PROGRAM
No deadline date
This is an officer training program. If, after the summer training, you decide the Marine Corps is not for you, cancel your enrollment and you will not be obligated to serve. This program allows you the flexibility to change your career path. For more information, contact:

MARTIN FAMILY FOUNDATION HONORS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline date: July 8, 2008
The Martin Family Foundation Honors Scholarship Program enables community college students of exceptional ability and outstanding achievement to complete their baccalaureate degrees at the University of Washington, Seattle Campus. Applicants are considered for superior strength of character, intellectual ability, and sense of purpose. They are expected to have well-formulated ideas about the direction of future studies and subsequent careers. There should be evidence that a Martin Scholarship will encourage pursuit of a program of education most likely to fulfill the applicant’s potential. Financial need may be considered but is not a requirement.
- Applicants must be US citizens and Washington State residents who are currently attending or who have attended a community college in the state of Washington.
- Applicants must have earned a minimum of 36 credits at a Washington State community college by the time they matriculate at the University of Washington. Students who hold an associate’s degree are encouraged to apply.
- Washington State community college transfer students who are currently enrolled at the University of Washington may not have earned more than 18 UW credits by the application deadline of Tuesday, July 8, 2008.
- The award will depend on successful admission to the University of Washington as a matriculated student.
- The selection committee gives no consideration to an applicant’s gender, race, color, creed, or national origin.

NATIONAL SCHOLARS HONORS
No deadline date
To join The National Scholars Honor Society on your campus, apply on-line at: http://CollegeHonors.org. Scholarship eligibility is determined for each new applicant at the time of acceptance, and is reviewed each academic year for as long as the member continues to update his file on an annual basis. Members may update their files at any time. Each member is responsible for updating his file to remain in the scholarship eligibility pool, but annual updates are not required to maintain membership in the society. Members may update their files by standard mail or by the Online Update Form. Recommended update information includes current and cumulative GPA, any awards, honors, memberships, personal attributes, experiences, or accomplishments that have changed since the initial application was filed.
NATIVE AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Deadline dates: Summer Session = March 15;
Fall Semester/Autumn Quarter = April 15;
Spring Semester/Winter Quarter = September 15
NASF’s objective is to recognize and reward outstanding student achievement. This supplemental award is intended to help American Indian students of any age, from any U.S. tribe, and in any State, striving to get an education. All awards are based on merit, academic achievement and ambition. Application packets may be picked up in the BBCC Financial Aid Office or by emailing faidinfo@bigbend.edu and requesting a packet.
