BBCC exploring new, multi-purpose facility
Big Bend Community College has announced plans to explore funding options on an indoor soccer and events facility to be located on the campus.
The $11 million building would be a multi-use structure housing a full-size soccer field. Plans are for college, public school and community use of the building for various recreational activities, including soccer. It would also be available to host trade shows, private functions and special events.
“We have needed a facility that would allow the college to field both men’s and women’s soccer teams to complement our presence in intercollegiate sports,” BBCC President Bill Bonaudi said. “An indoor facility for inclement winter weather will attract regional interest from our sport soccer community.”
Bonaudi indicated that the college would seek partners to fund the structure rather than seek state funding within the community and technical college capital budget.
“The campus addition of this facility, locally called the “Bend Dome,” will add to our capabilities to host a variety of events for the community,” he continued. “Wallenstien Theatre, the Peter DeVries Activity Center (gymnasium), ATEC and the Bend Dome support an expanding program of education, training and community service.”
