Scholarships Announced Shortly after the Cellarbration! fundraiser in May, the BBCC Foundation Scholarship Committee awarded 52 scholarships — 18 to graduating high school seniors, 21 to returning students, and 13 to professional/technical students.

The Scholarship Committee then approved an increase in individual scholarship awards from $1,000 to $1,400. Students who applied for $1,000 scholarships in 2007-08 soon will be notified they are getting $1,400 instead.

“Tuition, books, transportation and other expenses have increased for our students,” said Doug Sly, BBCC Foundation executive director. “A $1,000 scholarship isn’t worth what it was five years ago. The Foundation Board recognizes the need to increase scholarship amounts as well as the number of scholarships awarded.”

This was the first time the Foundation awarded scholarships specifically targeted to students enrolled in professional/technical programs at BBCC. A new application form was developed for those applicants.

The increase in the number and amount of scholarships is made possible and is sustainable due to the proceeds received from six years of Cellarbration!, Sly said.
