Preston Wilks, Head Coach
Preston enters his 2nd season as head coach of the Lady Vikings. Coach Wilks led the Lady Vikings in his first season to a winning record, 14-13. At one point in the season last year, the Lady Vikings were ranked #7 in the NWAACC poll. The Lady Vikings team were among season leaders in the NWAACC in points scored per game, steals per game, and 3-point shot attempts per game Preston brings this style of up tempo brand of basketball, having served as an assistant coach under current Runnin’ Vikes head coach Mark Poth for seven years. During those 7 years, the Runnin’ Vikes made it to the NWAACC tourney each year and were one of the top scoring men’s teams in the NWAACC. Coach Wilks had a successful summer recruiting an excellent freshmen class of players that fit nicely into the full-court press and half-court pressure defensive system. Coach Wilks, his coaching staff, and the players have set high goals and have their sights set on a trip to the NWAACC tourney at season’s end.
Preston played for Coach Poth during the 1988-1989 season where he was co-captain for Poth’s first playoff team. During that year, he was named to the NWAACC All-Academic Team. Preston additionally played his freshman season at Blue Mountain Community College during the 1985-1986 season.
Wilks received his BS and MS degrees in Accounting at Brigham Young University. He is a licensed CPA and teaches accounting and business classes at BBCC.
Preston and his wife Marni have four children, who are all hoopaholics: Jordan, Madison, Quincy, and Jackson.

Lucy Char, Assistant Coach
Lucy enters her 2nd season as an assistant coach. Lucy played at Pacific Lutheran University from 1997-2001 when the Lutes won three Northwest Conference championships and on the national level advanced as far as the NCAA Division III Elite Eight. She was co-captain during the 2000-2001 season, led her team in steals and was a threat from behind the arc. She obtained her BA degree in Physical Education from PLU and later gained coaching experience at her alma mater high school in Gresham, OR. She was an assistant coach previously at BBCC during the 2005-2006 season. Lucy is a tremendous communicator and teacher of the game. The players respond well to her suggestions and teaching.
Lucy is now married to Ricardo Char and is enjoying her time at home with their daughters Kaiya and Kamery.

Aaron Hansen, Assistant Coach
Aaron enters his 2nd season as an assistant coach. Aaron recently retired from 25+ years as a teacher in the Moses Lake school district. During that time, Aaron coached for many years for both the Moses Lake High School Girls’ and Boys’ basketball programs. Aaron possesses a great understanding for the game and provides great insight at practice and during the games.
Aaron and his wife Sandy have 5 children and 14 grandchildren. |
