11/17/2008Wednesday November 12th was the last Home game for the Big Bend Lady Vikings. Columbia Basin College Hawks came to town........................ Since my three children have been involved in Sports thru High School, in thier Senior year, they have Senior night or Senior Day, So the Parents come down to the field, and stand next to thier Senior Athelete. Well................ Thats what we had Wednesday Night with our Soph Gals. Coach De Hoog talked about our Sophmore Volleyball Athletes. Then our Soph Lady Viks carried up gifts to thier parents in the stands. It was a fitting tribute to our sophmore ladies that have put in the time and effort, for they will be moving on after graduation. Then the Coach told the Viking faithful that these five Sophmore atheletes at Big Bend have not only done well on the court, but they have a 3.3 cumlative Grade point, which is tremendous, not just this season, but so far in the last two years. Here is our five Lady viks #2- Rae Smith-Cascade H.S.-Leavenworth,Wash----#3-Jhenesis Garza-Moses Lake H.S.- Moses Lake Wash-----------#4--Ali Walen-West H.S.- Billings Montana----------#5-Taisha Haines-Moses Lake H.S.- Moses Lake Wash-----------#10- Natalie Lindley-Bonneville H.S. Idaho Falls, Idaho.......Also Coach thanked all the people involved, the announcer Dale and all the sound and light helpers, and Assistant Coaches: Cari Galbreath,Niki Baker. When all the thank youse were done...Game Time...........(Game 1)CBC scored the first points, and before Rae Smiths good block,it was 7-1 CBC.Then things got away from the Lady viks, bieng behind 17-6 at one time.Losing Game1 25-13 CBC.Just when you thought Opps! Pow.......Big Bend wins Game-2.But we lost Games 3&4..So the Hawks won the contest. Now there are many addages, Winning isn't everything its the only thing. The way I saw the Lady Viks,Its not If you win or lose its how you played the game. For that I thank our Volleyball team and Coaches, these games I saw Good Job!!!!!!!!!!!! 11/5/2008Talking to Coach De Hoog about Spokane, he told me that even though they weren't on top of the league they probably had some of the better atheletes on thier team. Well... Community Colleges of Spokane Lady Sasquatch came to play Big Bend Lady Viks on Wednesday Oct. 29th, at De Varies Gym. Game 1 vrs Spokane was a ditto of last weeks Game 1 -against WallaWalla. Exiciting, tied at 22-22, it went down to the wire. It was agreat team effort with, Ali Walen, Rae Smith, Stevi Fischer, Jhenesis Garza, all doing good. It ended with Spokane winning 25-22. From there things started to slide, with the Sasquatch winning Game 2 25-14. Then in Game 3 we stuggled losing 25-12. Please- let it be known, our Lady Viks have thier last Home Contest against Columbia Basin C.C., on Wednesday November 12th. Lets get out and show are support for are Gals, and be there. 10/29/2008Walla Walla Community College Lady Warriors came to town last Wednesday. The Warriors, one of the best teams in the State. Lined up here at Home vrs Big Bend Lady Vikings. We fought back in Game 1, and tied it up at 21-21, before losing 25-21. Game 2, started good as we captured the lead by 4&5 points, right down to the wire, but lost Game 2. I always enjoy the raffle, hitting it over the net. Wherever it hits you get that prize. Game 3, the roof fell in and we lost 25-13. Coach De Hoog mentioned the play of Jhenesis Garza, Stevie Fischer, and Rae Smith. Don't miss Hump Day October 29th vrs CC of Spokane, and the last Home contest Nov.12 Home against Columbia Basin CC. 10/22/2008
Just as a ship in storm, you fight through the tough times, and hang on, keep plugging, and do your best. Well.....our lady Viks have done just that. Coach De Hoog has the team, going in the right direction. Just as in life, we all have our ups and downs. The team has done well in the crossover tournaments this last month. Winning two out of three in both. Jhenesis Garza has been outstanding, just as the whole team keeps rallying. You know! there are but only three Home games left. So, lets rally and see them--------1.) Wednesday, Oct. 22, against Walla Walla C.C.-------2.)Wednesday, 29th against CC of Spokane-------------3.) Wednesday, Nov.12th against Columbia Basin C.C. Lets get out on Hump day, and support Viking Volleyball. 9/29/2008
What we have here...........Is not a lack of communication, but the other way around, great communication from Coach De Hoog to the Lady Viks Volleyball team. You could see it Hump Day.... Home game against Yakima Valley Yaks, Wednesday Sept. 24th. If you were lucky to be there, as many Big Bend Humanoids were, you saw, a more determined, improved, winning type attitude, from our Volleyball players. Well....... even though our viks lost the first game, they looked more focused, relaxed.( 25-23) YVC. Then we bounced back, winning the next three striaght games, to give the Lady Viks a much deserved Home Victory. Coach De Hoog told me before the game they had a tough one, against Walla Walla C.C.(away). Our Gals bounced back at a tournament at Treasure Valley, winning two out of the three games played.
Well!.......not only the familar faces were there for this second Home contest vrs. YVC, but the student section grew, big time, and the Viking Baseball Team came to show thier support, for the Lady Viks, the Coaches and players showed to see the Volleyball team do thier thing. Also the stands filled up with the Big Bend faithful, and Home enthusiasts. You had the good sounds, and of course the Dual dancing Viking skeletons. It was after the the third game they had a tricky raffle. The six winners came down to hit the volleyball to the selected sections on the other side of the net, winning whatever they hit such as a free Pizza, T-shirt, Teddybear, carrying bag- ect. It was enertaining to see our fans try to get the volleyball over the net.
It was good to see the Big Bend Gals scoring the first point in three of the four games against the Yaks. As I already told you Yakima won the first game.( 25- 19 ) Yaks, after switching courts, the Lady viks did not waver from there on. Our Gals Won Game -2 (25-22), and did not look back, but there were a few seriuos moments. Game-3 geat play by Ali Walden gave us another win (25-18) Big Bend. There were some tense moments in Game-4, with some good serves by Stevi Fischer, and of course Jhenensis Garza flying around the court, coupled overall great effort by the whole team Bam!!!!! We are in The "W" collum .So get to this next home contest vrs. Blue Mountain C.C., Wed. Oct. 1 and if you happen to be absent for that, then get here, and post up for are rivals Wenatchee Valley College, Friday Oct. 3 All around its a good outing to see our gals make strides as they did.
9/23/2008
You could call it volleyball, or vikingvolleyball, perhaps Big Bend Lady Vikings Volleyball, and yes a good experience. I was fortunate enough in the middle of the week, hump day, otherwise known as Wednesday, to go to Peter D. DeVries Acivity Center, or just BBCC Viking Gym, for the first Home Game of the lady viks. As Hank Willams jr. sings in the Monday nite Football theme," Are you ready for some Volleyball!!!!!!!!!" Sept.10,Wednesday,Lady Viks, first Home League contest. As I walked in the gym,it brought me back, to the time I was coaching. The two teams warming up..... It doesn't matter what sport, you warm up the same motions as game time. The two teams were basically doing the same warm up. What I thought was cool,..when the two head coaches got on thier side of the net doing quick serves, like fast balls with a open hand with great velocity. Ten or more a minute, the Lady Vik, greeting those fast balls would lierally slide on the floor retrieving them. Looking around the stands I saw familar faces, faculty and otherwise. A great sound system revirbrated througout, the lighting and sound crew, all of those Dude-o's wearing event staff t-shirts were used as needed. The game was action packed, fast moving between Big Bend Community College Vikings, and Treasure Valley Community College Of Oregon. From here on -I will refer to Big Bend Vikings, to the abreviated form, - ( B.B.), the Treasure Valley Chukers to-( T.V.) Gazing at our line up of the lady viks, I noticed six of the ten of our student athelets, are from North Central Washington, and the other four, Idaho, and Montana. Also looking at the two Teams ther was no hieght advatage, both teams with one each who was 5-11 ours bieng Brandi Kisler from Warden. Viking Head Coach : Michael De Hoog, who was a Area Athelete, very knowlegeable, likeable, intense, motavator type of coach, his Assistant Coaches Cari Galbreath, Niki Baker are agood crew also. And yes you can see a photo of our team, and schedule, Yep- right here. After the introductions, and high fives, the teams huddle up for last instructions. then the officals come out on the court.......... Game Time....... Ready Go.......... (Game 1-)........ TV scores first, then at the BB time out, the score was (13-9) TV. The Chukurs were consistentily 5 to 6 points ahead, until the next time out (20-15) TV. Then BB answered back (24-22) TV game point....... TV goes on to win the first game. .........(Game 2)........ Ready Go.......... (1-0) TV, then (3-3 tie), then the bottom droped out, we were consistantly behind by 7-8 points. Then time out TV........(21-17) TV, it got as close as (24-20) TV wins (Game 2) But Lady Viks still made a run at them. .......(Game-3)...........Ready Go............ (1-0) Viks -Yea! then (4-3) TV, until a (10-10) tie .... Jhenesis Garza, from Moses Lake made great plays for BB............(23-23) tie late in the game (24-24) tie game point TV wins. I really enjoyed watching this contest, of all these student atheletes, giving all they got, because in Volleyball, you can't make mistake, then pout, or get mad at yourself, because it, will affect your game, you gots to shake it off, because more than likely, the ball is coming back to you harder than it did before, and you are there for the team all those Gals standing next to youse........ so get your Humanoid form, to the next game, Hello!!!! Look in just about every building, schedules are posted everywhere, so Post-Up at the next game......................May these Lady Viks, keep pluging playin the exciting Volleyball I just saw.
