Botany Field Trips

Big Bend Community College Botany

During Field Botany, our students are very careful about collecting specimens appropriately. If the plant is a perennial, only a portion of the plant is collected, and students spread out to collect specimens from many different plants so that each plant remains unharmed. If the plant is an annual, usually the entire plant is collected, root system and all; annual plants are only collected if there is an abundance of that specific plant. Any holes created during digging are refilled so that each habitat is unaltered. If you are out on a walk or hike and see a pretty flower, please follow the same precautions to preserve the vast number of plant species native to the Columbia Basin.
