The Post-9/11 Veteran Benefit is for individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 Veteran Benefit. This program will pay eligible individuals:

This benefit is payable only for training at an Institution of Higher Learning (IHL) (See comparison chart for more information). If you are enrolled exclusively in online training you will not receive the housing allowance. If you are on active duty you will not receive the housing allowance or books & supplies stipend. This benefit provides up to 36 months of education benefits, generally benefits are payable for 15 years following your release from active duty.

Reminder: The Post-9/11 Veteran Benefits is only payable at an Institution of Higher Learning (IHL), you are only eligible for Veteran Benefits benefits for other types of training if you have eligibility under other Veteran Benefits programs such as the Active Duty Veteran Benefits, Reserve Veteran Benefits, REAP, or VEAP. You should contact your Education Service Officer or the VA for more information.

The percentage level ranges from 40% of the basic benefit for those whose service is between 90 days and 6 months to 90% for those who served between 30 and 36 months.  For example, an individual with 5 months of qualifying service could receive 40% of the tuition benefit, 40% of the monthly housing allowance, and a maximum of $400 books and supplies stipend.  The following chart represents the maximum percentage payable based on the length of an individual’s aggregate active duty service:
